Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov has accepted British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson.
The Minister stressed the significance of developing relations between the two countries and amplifying ties in various sectors of the economy, noting that effective trade and investment cooperation is being carried out with the UK. The UK is the largest investor in Azerbaijan.
The meeting also focused on projects with the UK in the field of energy, renewable energy, the successful activities of BP in our country, as well as the importance of creating a working group between the Ministry of Economy and the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Azerbaijan to expand economic partnership.
Baroness Emma Nicholson, Trade Envoy of the British Prime Minister to Azerbaijan, voiced that her country places a high priority on the development of trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan, and British companies hold an interest in participating in projects in the liberated territories, talking of new areas of cooperation and opportunities for joint initiatives. The Trade Envoy underlined that the working group between the Ministry of Economy and the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Azerbaijan, with the first meeting today, will be of great importance in the development of trade and economic relations. Baroness Emma Nicholson proposed to organize trade missions of Azerbaijan to the UK.
The meeting was dedicated to broadening cooperation with the United Kingdom in the field of trade, investment, energy conversion and restoration of our liberated territories.
Then the first meeting of the working group between the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Azerbaijan took place.
Addressing the meeting, First Deputy Economy Minister Elnur Aliyev wished success to the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that the newly created working group would contribute to the development of relations between business circles.
Baroness Emma Nicholson, British PM’s Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan, expressed her hope that the British Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan and the working group between the Chamber and the Ministry of Economy will work effectively and be useful in boosting bilateral economic relations.
Issues faced by companies that are members of the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Azerbaijan in the course of their business activities, as well as proposals and feedbacks on simplifying the processes related to the activities of companies, were heard at the meeting. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the issues of simplifying desk tax audits, optimizing tax reporting, simplifying the process of tax exemption for non-residents, etc.
