Meeting Held with Businesses Selling Technically Complex Household Goods

The meeting discussed deficiencies identified in the online sale of technically complex household goods and possible solutions, and businesses were given recommendations on protecting consumer rights and complying with the requirements of advertising legislation.

A meeting was held at the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan with representatives of business entities selling technically complex household goods. The meeting was convened after monitoring of the official websites of businesses selling such products, carried out in response to numerous recent consumer complaints received by the Agency about violations of legislative requirements in this field, revealed a number of deficiencies.

During the meeting, businesses were given detailed information on the results of analyses and investigations conducted in this field on the basis of the consumer complaints received. The importance of providing complete and accurate information on their official e-commerce websites about the main consumer characteristics of products, their prices, delivery costs and conditions, payment terms and order fulfilment procedures, as well as their origin and technical specifications, was also stressed.

It was noted that sales terms and contracts must not contain provisions restricting consumer rights, and that the requirements of advertising legislation must also be observed in promotional and discount campaigns.

At the end of the meeting, it was noted that the Agency had sent letters to businesses selling technically complex household goods, requesting them to bring their activities into line with legislative requirements. The need to eliminate the identified deficiencies as soon as possible was stressed.
