During his speech at the conference, the Chairman of the State Agency discussed the role of competition policy in ensuring sustainable economic development, Azerbaijan's experience and achievements in this field, and the importance of regional cooperation in promoting competition.
Elnur Baghirov, Chairman of the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, attended an international conference titled "The Role of Competition Policy Measures in Promoting Sustainable Economic Development in the Context of Global Uncertainty" held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Organized by the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the conference featured an address by State Agency Chairman Elnur Baghirov on "Competition Policy as a Driving Force of Sustainable Economic Development." In his speech, he highlighted the pivotal role of competition policy in fostering sustainable economic growth, encouraging innovation, and strengthening economic resilience. He presented Azerbaijan's experience regarding the outcomes of implementing the Competition Code, alongside enforcement measures carried out in antimonopoly control, economic concentrations, unfair competition, and natural monopolies. Additionally, he noted that regional cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States contributes significantly to enhancing the effectiveness of competition policy and promoting sustainable economic development.
Sharing their perspectives on the topic, other featured speakers included Marc Battenay, Secretary General of the German Monopolies Commission; Hakan Bilir, Vice President of the Turkish Competition Authority; and Farrukh Karabayev, Deputy Chairman of the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The event continued with panel sessions titled "The Role of Competition Policy in Ensuring Sustainable Economic Growth and Responding Effectively to Global Uncertainties: Advanced International Practice" and "Pressing Issues and Practical Mechanisms for Ensuring Competition in Strategic Markets and Economic Sectors."
