In order to improve the national standardization system, to assign products in the country a unique Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) and  to ensure the correct use of barcodes based on this number, a new state standard - AZS 907-2022 “Automatic Identification. Bar Coding. General Provisions. Rules for the formation, assignment, registration, application and control of item numbers in the GS1 system” has been adopted.

The new draft standard was adopted by "Azerbaijan Standardization Institute" Public Legal Entity subordinated to the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the Ministry of Economy and was integrated into the State Fund of Normative Documents on Standardization.

The application of the standard will serve to bring bar coding procedures in the country in line with international requirements, ensure the identification of products in a single system and enhance export potential.
