New State Standards on Occupational Safety Adopted in Azerbaijan

The implementation of the new state standards will contribute to reliable protection of the health and safety of employees working in hazardous conditions, and to reducing occupational injuries and professional risks at enterprises.

The Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTAND), which operates under the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has adopted 22 new state standards in the field of occupational safety:

  • AZS EN 208:2026 “Personal eye-protection — Eye-protectors for adjustment work on lasers and laser systems (laser adjustment eye-protectors)”;
  • AZS EN 354:2026 “Personal fall protection equipment — Lanyards”;
  • AZS EN 352-3:2026 “Hearing protectors — General requirements — Part 3: Ear-muffs attached to industrial safety helmets and/or head and face protection devices”;
  • AZS EN 361:2026 “Personal fall protection equipment — Full body harnesses”;
  • AZS EN 362:2026 “Personal fall protection equipment — Connectors”;
  • AZS EN 812:2026 “Industrial bump caps”;
  • AZS EN 813:2026 “Personal fall protection equipment — Sit harnesses”;
  • AZS EN 943-2:2026 “Protective clothing against dangerous solid, liquid and gaseous chemicals, including liquid and solid aerosols — Part 2: Performance requirements for Type 1 (gas-tight) chemical protective suits for emergency teams (ET)”;
  • AZS EN 1073-2:2026 “Protective clothing against radioactive contamination — Part 2: Requirements and test methods for non-ventilated protective clothing against particulate radioactive contamination”;
  • AZS EN 1149-5:2026 “Protective clothing — Electrostatic properties — Part 5: Material performance and design requirements”;
  • AZS EN 1496:2026 “Personal fall protection equipment — Rescue lifting devices”;
  • AZS EN 1498:2026 “Personal fall protection equipment — Rescue loops”;
  • AZS EN 1891:2026 “Personal protective equipment for the prevention of falls from a height — Low stretch kernmantel ropes”;
  • AZS EN 12083:2026 “Respiratory protective devices — Filters with breathing hoses (non-mask mounted filters) — Particle filters, gas filters and combined filters — Requirements, testing, marking”;
  • AZS EN 13034:2026 “Protective clothing against liquid chemicals — Performance requirements for chemical protective clothing offering limited protective performance against liquid chemicals (Type 6 and Type PB [6] equipment)”;
  • AZS GOST 12.4.033:2026 “Special footwear with leather uppers for protection against slipping on oily surfaces — Technical specifications”;
  • AZS GOST 12.4.162:2026 “Special footwear made of polymer materials for protection against mechanical impacts — General technical requirements — Test methods”;
  • AZS GOST 12.4.222:2026 “Special footwear with leather uppers for protection against vibration — Technical specifications”;
  • AZS ISO 22568-1:2026 “Foot and leg protectors — Requirements and test methods for footwear components — Part 1: Metallic toecaps”;

The purpose of implementing the new state standards is to ensure the safety of persons working in hazardous environments, to prevent the risks of falls from a height and of slipping on oily surfaces, and to establish uniform requirements for personal protective equipment designed to protect against hazards arising from chemical and radioactive environments, vibration and mechanical impacts.

The above-mentioned state standards were adopted by AZSTAND upon submission by the Technical Committee on Standardization in the Field of Labour (AZSTAND/TK 21), established at the public legal entity “Occupational Safety Centre” under the State Labour Inspectorate Service, and have been included in the State Standardization Fund of Normative Documents.
